The Kataraktis House

Historic and Elegant Symi Town House

 

This historic and elegant Symi town house, once used as a hospital during the Second World War, is situated at the back of the harbour.  It is reached via a steady slope, the Kataraktis, with few steps – ideal for those who want to avoid the typical Symi climbs.

An original traditional pebbled entrance leads into an unusual and impressive long hallway from which lead off two double bedrooms, each with a traditional platform beds. There is only one bathroom but this has two basins, shower and bath with plenty of space for toiletries.

At the end of the hall there is a cosy and character-filled living and dining area where one can relax and read. On the opposite side is the kitchen which looks out onto the back private courtyard.

The back courtyard has sunbeds for relaxing and a table for dining al fresco. Alternatively one can go upstairs to the long  pebbled terrace with views of the rocky hillside.

There are no specific sea views.  The house is in a very private and isolated location and yet is only five minutes easy walk from the main harbour.  Walkers may also like to take advantage of the fact that the Kataraktis is the ancient route up to the upper village of Chorio and is a good starting off point for many good walks while avoiding motor traffic.
